Does it really block? Can I just force-close it?

Does it upload my camera?

No. Your camera is only on while you do your push-ups. Everything is checked right on your phone. Nothing is saved and nothing ever leaves your phone. It even works in airplane mode.

Can I cheat by waving?

Waving will not count. You need a straight plank with a full dip and lockout on every rep. Half reps or bouncing stay at 0.

TL;DR: PushBuff is built on a 100% local-first, privacy-by-design architecture. Your camera frames and push-up repetitions never leave your phone. Real-time AI pose estimation runs entirely on your device via Google MediaPipe. Camera frames are processed strictly in volatile memory (RAM) and are never saved, recorded, or transmitted anywhere. We require no user accounts, track no personal analytics, and sell zero data.

1. Zero Account Requirement & Local Data Storage

No User Accounts: You do not need to create an account, log in with Google or Apple, or provide your name, email, or phone number to use PushBuff.
100% Local Storage: All personal app configurations, blocked app selections, custom rep counts, daily streaks, workout logs, and emergency skip pass balances are stored locally on your device using Android Room (SQLite) and encrypted Preferences DataStore.
No Cloud Synchronization: We do not operate remote databases or cloud servers that collect your personal usage or fitness statistics. If you uninstall PushBuff, all locally saved records are immediately and permanently erased from your device.

2. On-Device AI Camera Processing

To verify push-up and squat repetitions, PushBuff uses Google MediaPipe Pose Landmarker running directly on your phone's CPU/GPU:

Ephemeral In-Memory Processing: Camera frames are analyzed in real time solely to calculate body joint angles. Each frame is processed in volatile memory (RAM) and discarded within milliseconds.
No Recording or Storage: PushBuff never captures photos, never records video clips, and never writes any visual media to your phone's storage.
No Network Transmission: The camera feed is completely isolated from network interfaces. Not a single pixel or video stream is ever transmitted across the internet.
Active Only During Challenges: The camera is accessed strictly while you are actively performing a push-up challenge or calibrating form in the Practice screen. It is never active in the background.

3. Android Permissions Explained

PushBuff requests only the minimum set of permissions necessary to function as an effective screen-time blocker:

PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access): Required by Android to detect when you launch a blocked application (such as Instagram or TikTok) so PushBuff can promptly present the push-up challenge. We never inspect screen contents, messages, or activity inside third-party apps.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Display Over Other Apps): Required to render the full-screen push-up challenge overlay and rep-counting camera view directly above the blocked app.
CAMERA: Requested at runtime solely to power on-device computer vision pose detection during active unlock sessions.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE & SPECIAL_USE: Allows the background monitoring engine to run smoothly so that app locks cannot be bypassed by background app switching.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Used to deliver daily streak reminders, notify you when unlocked screen-time grace periods are about to expire, and show persistent status of the blocking service.
Battery Optimization Exemption (Unrestricted Battery): Recommended to prevent aggressive manufacturer battery killers from prematurely closing the background monitoring service.

4. In-App Purchases, Subscriptions & Billing Data

All financial transactions for PushBuff Pro (Monthly, Yearly with free trials, and Lifetime unlocks) as well as Emergency Skip Pass packs are processed securely through Google Play Billing:

RevenueCat Integration: We utilize RevenueCat to securely validate Google Play purchase receipts and manage entitlement statuses. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated app user identifier and transaction receipt tokens generated by Google Play.
No Payment Card Access: We do not collect, process, or store credit card numbers, bank information, or billing addresses. All billing information is managed strictly by Google Play under Google's Privacy Policy.
Consumable Emergency Skip Passes: Balance records for purchased consumable passes are tracked locally on your device and reconciled with Google Play purchase receipts.
